UVRF 2020 Membership
Membership in UVRF is open to everyone. All members of UVRF pay an annual membership fee, which is set by the Board of Directors. The fee is due at the start of the rowing season (or for new members, upon joining) and covers the shared operating expenses of our organization.
Membership Fees for 2020:
Voting rights at our annual meeting; we encourage all members to participate actively in helping us to serve the needs of our rowing community!
Access to sweep & sculling programs (additional fees apply)*
Access to social functions
*You do not need to be a member for the Novice Intensive (sweep) or Learn-to-Scull programs in the summer. Membership is required for all other programs.
Use of Club Sculling Equipment - ***NEW FOR 2020***:
UVRF is fortunate to own a large fleet of sculling boats: singles (racing and recreational), doubles (club and racing) and quads. The use of the club sculling boats is open to all members who have paid an equipment use fee. This policy is different from past years when the club owned fewer boats and their use was included for members participating in programs or renting racks for private boats. Club sculling boats are occasionally used as part of programs and this usage is covered by the program fees. Starting in 2020, however, anyone intending to use these boats outside of program time must pay the equipment use fee. Two (complimentary) uses of club sculling equipment are permitted before the equipment fee is paid.
Equipment Fees for 2020:
UVRF offers limited financial assistance to aspiring rowers for whom the required fees present a financial hardship. To apply for a partial scholarship, complete the UVRF Scholarship Application form in the documents section of the website, and submit the form to
UVRF Required Swim Test:
A swim test is required for ALL UVRF members. Everyone participating in UVRF rowing programs or using UVRF facilities and equipment must pass this test. The swim test, which is good for five years, is a club requirement that is consistent with USRowing safety recommendations. All tests will be administered by UVRF or its chosen designee, and will consist of the following: wearing rowing clothes, each person has to tread water for 10 minutes, then swim 50 yards, then put on a life jacket that is thrown into the water, and then swim to a ladder and climb out of the pool.
Swim test times for UVRF members have been scheduled at the Karl Michael pool at Dartmouth's Alumni Gym. Find all the information on these scheduled times on our Swim Test page.
If you cannot take the group swim test, you can also get the Swim Test Checklist form off the Documents section of our website (here) and bring it to a lifeguard at the Aquatic Center, the Dartmouth Gym, Storrs Pond, or CCBA. Call ahead to schedule time with a lifeguard. For the Dartmouth Pool, please contact Dana Metes. For UVAC, please contact Forrest Pollard. For CCBA, please contact Marie Dumont. For Storrs Pond, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. You will have to purchase a day pass at the front desk, then go to the pool and have the lifeguard administer the test. Day passes at the Dartmouth Gym cost $10 and include the use of all gym facilities.
You must wear rowing clothes to take the test. Make sure you bring a towel and a fresh set of clothes for afterward.
Please note that UVRF accepts swim tests from Lebanon Crew and HHS Crew.
